If you're looking for a venue for your wedding in the heart of Lisbon, The Palácio da Rocha Condes d’Óbidos, also known as Palácio da Rocha or Palácio da Cruz Vermelha, is a perfect choice! Full of history and with a super elegant atmosphere, it has the necessary conditions for celebrating your wedding. It's the perfect choice for couples seeking a vintage setting with a breathtaking view of the Tagus River.
History and Location
The Palace of Conde D’Óbidos is a true national historical treasure.
Considered a property of public interest since 1993, it was commissioned by D. Vasco de Mascarenhas in the 17th century, with the idea of building a palace on top of a cliff, hence the origin of its name, later called 'Rocha do Conde d’Óbidos'. It was set on steep cliffs that descended precipitously towards the Tagus River. Nowadays, with the city's development, this cliff has given way to other constructions and the staircase access from Avenida 24 de Julho.
This noble Portuguese, who was also the Vice-King of Brazil and a hero of the Wars of the Restoration of Independence, became the 1st Conde d’Óbidos in reward for his deeds and dedication to the nation. The ownership of the palace remained in the family until the 20th century.
In 1919, the Palácio Rocha Conde d’Óbidos was acquired by the Portuguese Red Cross and, from 1940 to the present day, has functioned as the national headquarters of this noble institution.
It is located in one of the oldest areas of the city of Lisbon, between the districts of Santos, Janelas Verdes, and Lapa, on a promontory overlooking the Tagus River.
The property is strategically positioned along Avenida 24 de Julho to the south, with Jardim 9 de Abril and the National Museum of Ancient Art (Palácio dos Condes de Alvor) to the east, providing it with a magnificent view over the Tagus River.
Spaces and Environment
The Palace of Rocha do Conde d’Óbidos has five magnificent rooms, each with a capacity for up to 300 seated people. In addition, the panoramic terrace can accommodate up to 200 seated people and is often used as a space for a reception cocktail or even for an Al Fresco meal.
While exploring the palace, you will find artworks on every wall that witness its rich historical past, including tile panels, paintings, and a majestic crystal chandelier that illuminates the Library, the grand centerpiece of this magnificent space.
The Library, in particular, is a unique and very special space.
It can be used for the celebration of the civil ceremony. Imagine exchanging vows surrounded by old books and an atmosphere of unparalleled elegance.

Since 2019, the Portuguese Red Cross has established a partnership for the space's operation with the well-known Casa do Marquês, already mentioned in this article. This way, you immediately have the guarantee that your wedding will certainly be perfect!

Our Experience at the Palace of Rocha Conde D’Óbidos
Previously considered by us as one of best wedding venues in Lisbon, we had the opportunity to, recently photograph the wedding of C || K at the Palace of the Red Cross, who chose this venue for the celebration of their day.
I confess, a space like this has the particularity of inspiring and motivating us in such a way that I easily lose track of time... a challenging task for my assistant and my second photographer who usually keeps track of time and doesn't let me go beyond the acceptable :).
C||K decided to celebrate their wedding with a symbolic ceremony, and due to the threatening rain on the day, it was held indoors, in one of the magnificent halls.
Still, it allowed the reception cocktail and cake cutting to take place on the exterior balcony, allowing everyone to enjoy the wonderful view over the Tagus River.
he music was in the hands of the talented 24 Robersa band with a nice repertoire of Jazz, Blues, and some more Pop themes. It was the first time we crossed paths with them, and they were absolutely amazing!
After the delicious meal served by Casa do Marquês, we kidnapped the newlyweds for a brief moment for a short photo session in the palace's library and ended up in the Jardim 9 de Abril.
The party then continued indoors with strong entertainment and a super friendly couple, excellent hosts, who paid the utmost attention to all their guests.
